Advocate Rapolu Bhaskar has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) requesting the court to direct the concerned authorities to recover thousands of crores of rupees in public funds that have been misused or misappropriated. Bhaskar’s plea highlights rampant financial irregularities, lack of accountability, and systemic corruption in various government departments and public sector undertakings, which have resulted in significant losses to the public exchequer.
In his petition, Bhaskar emphasized that public funds, sourced from taxpayer money, are meant for developmental projects and welfare schemes that benefit the citizens. However, widespread financial mismanagement and fraudulent practices have diverted these funds, depriving the public of essential services like education, healthcare, and infrastructure. He noted several reports and audits from agencies such as the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), which reveal glaring discrepancies in fund utilization but often fail to lead to concrete recovery measures or accountability for the culprits.
The PIL seeks judicial intervention to compel authorities to launch a comprehensive investigation into the misuse of public funds. Bhaskar has urged the court to mandate the establishment of a special task force or committee comprising independent financial experts, legal professionals, and anti-corruption officials. This body would be responsible for identifying, tracing, and recovering the misappropriated amounts while ensuring those responsible are prosecuted under the law.
Advocate Bhaskar also stressed the need for structural reforms to prevent future misuse of public funds. He recommended measures such as stricter auditing protocols, enhanced transparency in government spending, and the implementation of digital tracking systems for fund allocation and utilization. These steps, he argued, are critical to restoring public trust and ensuring that taxpayers’ money is utilized effectively for the greater good.
This PIL seeks not only to recover lost public funds but also to establish accountability mechanisms to deter corruption and misuse in the future. Bhaskar’s representation calls for urgent judicial oversight to ensure justice and uphold the principles of good governance and financial integrity.
